Summer Weekend in South Lake Tahoe

I grew up less than 2 hours from Tahoe and every time I go back I get the same feeling of awe - it's so incredibly beautiful! If you don't already have plans to go for at least one weekend this summer - make them now and be sure to check out a few of the below activities near South Lake Tahoe.

Glen Alpine Falls

Drive about 30 minutes from Stateline and you'll reach Lower Glen Alpine Falls (pictured above). For the last 10 minutes of the drive, you'll be right along the perimeter of Fallen Leaf Lake - be sure to drive slow and gawk at the beautiful homes. No hiking is required to see the Lower Falls but if you want to get to the Upper Falls (pictured below) you'll need to hike about 30 minutes.

Basecamp Beer Garden

If you like sipping local beer and eating bratwurst while listening to live music on a trendy patio - this is your spot. We went there solely for the atmosphere and beer but left pleasantly surprised by how tasty the food was. Check out the hotel attached to the brewery if you need a place to stay.

Sprouts Cafe Breakfast

Start your morning off with a fresh squeezed turmeric/carrot/orange juice to go along with one of Sprout's healthy breakfast options. Great outdoor seating too :)

*Breakfast Tip: Don't make the mistake we did and avoid Driftwood Cafe - for whatever reason this place seems to be popular on Yelp - was not very good especially after having to wait to get in*

Maggie's Peak Hike

Drive about 25 minutes from Stateline to Bayview Trailhead to start your hike in Desolation Wilderness up Maggie's Peak. Stop about half way up and rest at Granite Lake (pictured above). Once you're at the top of the peak, you'll have a fabulous view of Emerald Bay (below). The roundtrip hike is just under 4 miles.

Zephyr Cove

Kayak, SUP, play volleyball or just chill on the beach and people watch at Zephyr Cove - about a 10 minute drive from Stateline. Pack your own lunch or grab a burger at popular Sunset Bar and Grill.

Boathouse on the Pier

Come here for happy hour and get a top shelf margarita. The view is amazing, especially during sunset, and the place has cool vibes BUT we weren't crazy about the food.

Save room for Ice Cream

Go to Aloha Ice Cream instead of the place pictured above (we both thought Aloha was better quality and generally liked the place better). If you prefer milkshakes, Sno-Flake Drive In has a killer one but prepare to be full all day.

To make your trip extra special, bring ingredients to make S'mores and make one at least twice a day :)

Hope your next Tahoe trip is incredible!
