Eat tacos, drink margaritas & mariachi your heart out
in colorful Guanajuato :)
Pronounced “wanna-wat-o” and located inland, Guanajuato is a vibrant city known for its nightly mariachi parades.
Why you’ll love Guanajuato
1. Traveling to Guanajuato is easy & inexpensive
Non-stop flights from Oakland to Leon ( 4 hour flight) on Volaris airlines for <$400
Guanajuato City is only a 30 minute taxi from Leon
2. Your accommodation will have an amazing view
For an incredible AirBnB, look no further than here.
Million dollar view (pictured below) - may be the best in town
Mini kitchen included
Quick walk into town
If hostals are your thing, we loved this one
Breakfast was delicious and included
View from our private room (pictured right below) featured a baseball field
Walk into town was a bit of a trek from here but it was worth it
3. Plaza San Fernando
Slightly removed from the main square
The best place to relax, grab a local beer and people watch
Close to La Clave Azul - both a local and tourist favorite bar serving the best margs in town
4. The street food.
Try everything.
5. ELOTE. yes, this warrants its own category
There are lines for a reason
Don’t go to the one in the main square - it was our least favorite out of the 3 we tried
Try the Dorilocos - a bag of dorito-like chips cut longways topped with corn, mayonnaise, butter, lime, and chili salt.
6. Cerro de la Bufa Hike
2 hour round trip hike from Pipila monument
Great 360 view of entire city and surrounding area
7. Catch a local baseball game
Grab a $1 USD can of beer from one of the kids selling them
Enjoy watching the manual scoreboard change as the teams score :)
8. Shopping
Mercado Hildalgo (upper left pic) had tons of shopping and food to choose from
You’ll stumble upon some art galleries (upper right pic was our fav)
Leon is a major shoe manufacturing city and, being so close to Leon, Guanajuato has tons of shoe shopping (check out Scottie’s new boots ;))
Guanajuato was all and more we imagined it being - enjoy your time there!
Salud.
